FEES & POLICIES

Our therapy sessions will generally last 50 minutes. Families and couples often benefit from 80 minute sessions. It is difficult to predict how many sessions you may want at the onset of therapy, however; the number of sessions and the frequency will depend on you, the nature of your goals and the weight of your concerns.

Payment is expected at the time of each session. You may pay by cash, check or charge (Visa, Discovery, Master Card). We do not accept insurance. Keep in mind that most insurance companies limit sessions, session times, and require a mental health diagnosis in order to reimburse expenses. I would be happy to provide you with any information necessary for you to independently file out-of-network.

Cancellation Policy

24-hour notice is required to cancel or change an appointment. Otherwise you will be charged for the reserved time according to our agreed upon fee. In cases when you arrive late for a session, your session will end at the scheduled time and you will be charged for the full session.

Communications

You may leave a message on our private, confidential voicemail at (512) 355-0450. We check my messages daily, and will return calls by the end of the following business day. However, it’s important for you to know that this number is not an emergency phone number. In case of an emergency, or if you need immediate assistance for any reason, please call 911 or the 24-hour crisis hotline at (512) 472-HELP (4357). For additional resources, contacting 2-1-1 may be helpful.

Please note: Information through electronic mail is not a completely secure and confidential means of communication. Therefore, we recommend that you keep the content of your written message limited. I would be happy to discuss your situation and/or concerns in person or over the phone.

Insurance

We are not an in-network provider for any insurance plans. However, most insurance companies will reimburse you for session fees as an out-of-network benefit. To help you obtain reimbursement, we will provide you with documentation about your diagnoses, session codes, and fees. If you are planning to obtain reimbursement using out-of-network benefits, you should call your insurance company prior to starting treatment to determine the answers to the following questions:

  • Do you have out of network mental health benefits?

  • What is your mental health deductible, and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per year are covered?

  • When does the coverage end or begin?

  • What is the coverage amount per session?

  • Is pre-authorization required to see a provider at Sound Mind Austin?  If yes, from whom?
